Research Interests:

We are interested in the structure, activity, interaction and physiological function of biomolecules (such as proteins) involved in important cellular processes, such as protein trafficking, endosomal sorting and biosynthesis of metabolites. Our study will help improve the fundamental understanding of the mechanism and regulation of bio-processes, and may lead to discovery of noval ways for drug designs. We mainly employ X ray crystallography method to resolve the crystal structures of proteins and/or protein complexes, and study their biochemical and physiological functions via combined use of structure-based mutagenesis and gene knock-out and knock-in strategies.

Project 1, The silkworm MVB (multivesicular body) pathway and its involvement in the life cycle of BmNPV (Bombyx mori nuclearpolyhedrosis virus).  It is supported by the start-up fund for distinguished scholars of Jiangsu University (09JDG005), the natural science fund for colleges and universities in Jiangsu Province (10KJB180001), and the national natural science fund (31372259). We hope this study may further our knowledge about the interaction and gameplay between silkworm and BmNPV, providing insights into the infection, replication, viron assembly and release of BmNPV.

Project 2, The siderophore biosynthesis pathway in bacterium. We are focusing on the pyoverdine biosynthesis in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and are supported by State Key Lab of Microbiological Engineering Research Fund (M2008-07) and the national natural science fund (31170692). We hope this work may illuminate the biosynthesis mechanism of pyoverdine, which may facilitate its application in clinical treatment of various diseases due to shortage or overload of iron ions and in environmental remediation caused by improper discharge of heavy metal ions.

We are also actively participating in other projects, such as those involving the roles of   N-acety-beta-D-glucosaminidase or amino acid transporter in the life cycle of BmNPV (31101673, 31301919). Another project is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture of China, which is focused on the development of high-throughput detection technique to identify transgenic rice samples...
