On January 9th, Dr. Jianming Qiu, tenured professor of KansasUniversity Medical Center and fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, and member of the International Virus Classification Committee, was invited to the Instituteof Life Sciences for academic exchange. Professor Qin Yao, the academic leader of virus and functional microorganism research group of the institute, and all the faculties and students participated in the discussion in Conference Room 604. Six young researchers, including associate professor Zhaoyang Hu, sharedtheir research projects and progresses. Professor Qiu put forward valuable opinions and suggestions for the research contents and plans of all the researchers, and all those who participated in the exchange and discussion were very much benefited.
Professor Jianming Qiu has joined the Kansas University Medical Center since September 2006, engaged in Microbiology, molecular genetics and immunology department.Prof. Qiu hasbecome the tenured associate professorof the KUMC since July 2011, and the tenured professor since July 2015.He has been just elected as the Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology in this January. Professor Qiu is mainly engaged in molecular virology research, comparative virology research on animal parvovirus, basic research and prevention of Mink Aleutian's virus, infectious clone of human Bocavirus (a parvovirus causing childhood pneumonia) and immune carrier construction and achieved remarkable results. His research achievements have published more than 100 articles in many influential magazines such as "PLOS Pathogens" and "Journal of Virology" (top journal of the virology research field). The total citations of his articles are more than 3000 times. His personal H-index has been reached to 31so far.
During Prof. Qiu’s exchange visiting, Lingping Zhu，the secretary of the party's general branchof the institute also introduced the current situation of life science research in Jiangsu University and expressed her desire to build a cooperative relationship in virologyresearchbetween KUMC andUJS, hoping to jointly promote the forefront of biological science.
