Master Degree Programs of Biology

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Strong emphasis is placed on developing the student’s ability to initiate and carry out original research projects. The research programs of the institute encompass the major of biology. To be enrolled in the Master program, the student must:

1. Meet the university admission requirements.

2. Have a bachelor degree in a related major.

TRAINING OBJECTIVE

Institute of Life Sciences is dedicated to providing students with the highest quality of training in diverse areas of molecular biology research that focus on the understanding of biological theories and facts as well as practice of modern biological techniques. Courses offer the best possible training to students in the program combined with the tutorial research in the laboratories, emphasizing on the capability of doing independent research, encouraging innovation, and on scientific observation and logical thinking ability.

RESEARCH FIELDS

●Functional genomics and proteomics of model organisms

●Gene engineering and protein engineering

●Molecular basis of bioreactor and vaccine

●Cellular biology

●Molecular genetics

●The interaction between virus and host

●Microbiology

●Bioinformatics

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

The Master degree is composed of a minimum of 30 credits following an approved program plan which should include Public Compulsory, Core courses, Specialized Courses and Elective courses. Candidates for the master degree must complete a research proposal, seminar credits, published papers, thesis and oral examination in thesis defense.

THESIS RESEARCH

The thesis research is mainly conducted on campus at Jiangsu University with a supervisor of the institute. During the first academic semester, each student must select a supervisor, prepare a program plan and define a research topic with the assistance of the supervisor. The students should then progressively continue through the stages of research proposal, research on projects and oral examination in thesis defense.

CURRICULUM

Each student follows an individual program plan. The program plan must have a minimum of 34 credits including 30 credits of Public Compulsory, Core courses, Specialized Courses, Elective courses, respectively, as well as 2 credits of thesis and 2 credits of seminars.
