On September 3rd, Dr.Sun Xueguang,Chinese-American,postdoctor of Yale University,was invited to give a lecture entitled "Covering all the Bases with Genome Wide 5-mc and 5-hmc Sequencing" for teachers and students in Jiangsu University.The report was held in the 604 Conference Room of the Institute of Life Sciences ,chaired by Dean Chen Keping.
Dr.Sun started the lecture with his educational background.Then,he elaborated DNA methylation and hydroxymethylation, specially introduced the common test methods of distincting the two,and some applications about genome modification and sequencing on epigenetics and clinical diagnosis were prospected.Dr. Sun’s lecture was full of novel ideas, and shed light on the achievements in his research field.After the meeting,according to the content they wre intersted in,the attendees asked questions actively,and Dr. Sun answered them patiently.
Dr. Sun is a Chinese-American with rich learning and working experiences, and a highly motivated and innovative leader with in-depth product development experience in epigenomics/genomics, biomarker profiling and validation, next-gen sequencing platforms, multiplex assay. In 1999,he obtained the doctorate of biophysical research in Chinese Academy of Sciences;In 2005,he won the doctorate of Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta GA, USA;In 2006,he developed a microarray based technology for whole genome methylation profiling,performed a large scale epigenome data analysis for biomarker identification through gene ranking and pathway analysis in Yale University;In 2008,he turned to screen cellulose degrading enzyme and did gene engineering research in Boston;In 2010,he was the director of Platform Technologies in Zymo Research,found epigenetics service department and led development and commercialization of next generation sequencing based technology for epigenomic analysis.Dr. Sun owns 6 America patents,2 international PCT authorized patents,and has published more than 20 papers in important periodicals,such as Nature Biotechnology,Genome Biology, Epigenetcs, BMC Genomics. He has got the Award for Excellence in Leadership (Zymo Research Corp.),and Liu Yong-Ling Award of Chinese Academy of Sciences as well.
