Institute of Life Sciences of Jiangsu University (ILSJU) was established in 2001. The mission is to carry out molecular biology research in animals, medicine, plants, microorganisms through collaborative efforts. The ILSJU is also devoted to students training to nurture scientific creativity and capacity, and can enroll postgraduate students and doctoral candidates.
The institute currently possesses 2000 m2 space for bench research, and are supported by central and local governments. More than 10 million RMB has been invested to create various research platforms to enable modern molecular researchs on nucleic acid, proteomics, transgenesis and pathological mechanism.
The institute owns a superb research team, leading by Dr. Keping Chen, an internationally renowned investigator in the field of silkworm and baculovirus. The institute also owns 4 Ph.D. supervisors, 15 postgraduate''''''''''''''''s tutors, and 38 doctors with overseas educational background or from famous universities and leading academic institutions home and abroad.
The institute participates in a series of scientific research projects, such as National "973" and “863” Programs, National Transgenic Major Program, Ministry of Finance Program of China, Jiangsu High-tech Program,Jiangsu Ministry of Education Program、Foundation of Jiangsu Talent Program.
The institute tries its best to create an home-like environment that our faculties and students can enjoy working here. Every student is encouraged to actively participate in scientic research and interactions. The institute has established various exchange and collaborative programs with many research, education or industry institutions home and abroad. Every year, many graduate students have been selected to further their research in famous universities or leading academic institutions in developed counties such as United States, Japan or Korea. The institute enrolls over 30 postgraduate students every year, and the door is always open to potential students who are interested in life science research and plan to pursue a Ph.D. Degree. Master Degree Programs of Biology
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Strong emphasis is placed on developing the student’s ability to initiate and carry out original research projects. The research programs of the institute encompass the major of biology. To be enrolled in the Master program, the student must: 1.Meet the university admission requirements. 2. Have a bachelor degree in a related major.
DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
The Master degree is composed of a minimum of 30 credits following an approved program plan. A research proposal, thesis writing and defense are also required.
THESIS RESEARCH
The thesis research is mainly conducted on campus at Jiangsu University with a supervisor of the institute. During the first academic semester, the student must select a supervisor, prepare a program plan and define a research topic with the assistance of the supervisor. The student should then progressively continue through the stages of research proposal, research on projects and oral examination in thesis defense.
CURRICULUM
Each student follows an individual program plan. The program plan must have a minimum of 30 credits including 26 credits of required courses, core courses, electives respectively, and 2 credits of thesis and 2 credits of seminars.
