Academic report of Prof. Luiz from University of Brasilia

At the invitation of Institute of Life Sciences, Prof. Luiz along with researcher Song Chen will visit Jiangsu University for academic exchange and is going to deliver an academic report, titled “Starch quality and protein enhancement in Cassava storage Root”, in the meeting room of Institute of Life Sciences at 9:30 a.m. on January 6th, 2011.

Luiz Joaquim Castelo Branco Carvalho is a senior molecular and genetic scientist of cassava from Genetic Resources and Biotechnology Research Institute of National Institute of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry of Brazil and is also a PhD supervisor of Brasilia University. Chen Song is a proteomics expert from Academy of China Tropical Agricultural Sciences. All the teachers and students are welcome to attend the report.

Prof. Luiz, PhD graduated from Cornell University in 1990 and was engaged in his postdoctoral work at University of Washington from 1994 to 1996. He has made great effects on the genetic diversity of germplasm of Euphorbiaceae, Manihot. He also developed and utilized plant biochemistry, plant molecular genetics and molecular biology to investigate the storage mechanism of starch and sugar of the cassava root.
