On July 9, the Youth Forum on Smart Agriculture Engineering—Recycling and Utilization of Agricultural Biomass Resources, hosted by the Faculty of Smart Agriculture Engineering of Jiangsu University and organized by the School of Biological Sciences and Technology, was successfully held in Room F609 of the Leisi Building. The forum provided a platform for exchange and communication among young researchers and carried out in-depth academic discussions on frontier directions such as the resource utilization of agricultural and forestry waste, biomass energy conversion, and efficient utilization of straw.
The forum was chaired by Yong Yangchun, Dean of the School of Biological Sciences and Technology. Relevant faculty and students from the School of Biological Sciences and Technology, the School of Agricultural Engineering, the School of Energy and Power Engineering, and the School of Environmental and Safety Engineering participated.
At the opening of the event, Liao Zhiling, Executive Director of the Faculty, delivered the first address. He pointed out that the resource utilization of agricultural biomass is a core lever for the development of smart agriculture and green agriculture. He encouraged young researchers on campus to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration, connect the entire technological chain of biomass resources from field utilization to high-value conversion, and rely on the interdisciplinary advantages of multiple schools to produce research outcomes that can be implemented in practice.
The keynote academic report session covered four major fields—environment, energy, biology, and agricultural engineering—with rich content and diverse perspectives. Based on their respective disciplinary strengths, the speakers addressed dimensions including germplasm cultivation, thermochemical conversion, biodegradation, and agricultural machinery and equipment, comprehensively covering the entire industrial chain of agricultural biomass from “production—collection—conversion—high-value utilization,” and providing numerous research entry points for interdisciplinary integrated innovation. Faculty and students present actively exchanged views and held lively discussions on key issues such as strain optimization, equipment adaptation, and industrial implementation, creating a strong academic atmosphere.
At the closing session, the outcomes of the forum were systematically reviewed. Participants unanimously agreed that the recycling and utilization of agricultural biomass is an important track for supporting agricultural carbon peaking and carbon neutrality and promoting green rural development, and that Jiangsu University has natural interdisciplinary advantages in agricultural engineering, biology, energy and power, and environment.
This youth forum effectively broke down research barriers between schools and established regular academic exchange channels for young faculty and graduate students. Next, the participating schools will take this forum as an opportunity to continue carrying out interdisciplinary joint research. Focusing on agricultural biomass resources such as straw, woody biomass, algae, and forage grass, they will collaboratively develop new green, efficient, and industrially viable recycling technologies and equipment, boost the high-quality development of the university’s smart agriculture engineering discipline with the strength of young researchers, and contribute Jiangsu University solutions to the green transformation and upgrading of modern agriculture.
