An Academic Report By Professor Miguel Cámara
Title: Quorum sensing, a universal language in the microbial world with an increasing impact on diverse fields of science
Speaker: Professor Miguel Cámara
Time:October 10, 14:30
Place: The third report hall of conference center
Sponsoring Agency: Institute of Life Sciences
Lecturer Brief Introduction:
Miguel Cámara, professor of Nottingham Universitv. Areas of specialization: Molecular microbiology. Research team about Quorum Sensing leaded by Professor Miguel Cámara belongs to Biomolecular Science Center of Nottingham Universitv, which is internationally recognized research center on Europe bacteria control network and biosensor. They are dedicated to the study pathogenic bacteria QS signal cascade and the integration of control network, and reveale the mechanism about the crossover signal transduction regulation interactions between the bacteria and eukaryotes. Research achievement of exchange between cell and cell in bacteria was applied to agriculture, biotechnology, medicine, and so on. The purpose is identify new antibacterial targets to diagnosis and prevention of infectious diseases. He has published nearly hundred papers in Nat Genet, Lancet Infect Dis. Science,PNAS,PLoS Pathogens, etc.
Lecture Content: Quorum sensing is communication system between cells and cells. It exeerts and interacts chemical signal molecule, using complexity of species and Population density dependence to regulate and conrol gene expression and important biological processes. QS regulation system of bacteria have an influnce on the population social behavior through group collaboration. This make bacteria have a similar behavor capacity to multicellular group so that they can gain competeitive advantage and have a high survival rate in environment. QS has a broad application prospect on agriculture, biotechnology, medicine , etc. Fouding complex model of bacteria regulatory network by the method of integrating system systems biology and synthetic biology. The purpose is identify new antibacterial targets to diagnosis and prevention of infectious diseases. Also, appling in plant disease prevention and prevention of Marine biological dirt, etc.
Welcome the masses of teachers and students to participate.
